This research aims to find out the historical empathy capabilities of Students of Historical Education, Universitas Negeri Jakarta. Historical empathy is considered important because in this ability students can understand and empathize the past events. So when they became a teacher, they were able to carry out a learning process that gave birth to empathy at historical events and a passion to restore Indonesia’s future glory. The research was conducted in the 114th semester in class C class of 2017 in the course of New Order History of Indonesia and class A class of 2018 in the course of Colonial History of Indonesia. This study uses qualitative methods with a case study approach. Data collection techniques were used with interviews and documentation. The result of this study is that UNJ History Education students have cognitive abilities of empathy or the truncated empathy. This ability means students can understand and understand the way people think in the past. He also understands emotionally about the situation and conditions in which historical events occur. Cognitive empathy breeds empathy in students but still emphasizes the element of objectivity in history in understanding events. This is necessary because history prioritizes objectivity in its discussions.
