Peer Review

In the review process, Higher Education Spiritual Pedagogies (HESP) involves authors, editors, section editors, and reviewers to ensure the quality, originality, and academic integrity of every published manuscript. HESP applies a Double-Blind Peer Review model in which both authors and reviewers remain anonymous throughout the review process in order to maintain objectivity and confidentiality.

Every submitted manuscript is initially evaluated by the editorial team to assess its suitability with the journal’s focus and scope, writing guidelines, ethical standards, and overall academic quality. Manuscripts that do not meet the journal requirements may be returned to the authors for revision or rejected at the preliminary stage.

Manuscripts that pass the initial screening will be forwarded to a minimum of two independent reviewers with expertise relevant to the manuscript topic. The reviewers evaluate the originality, theoretical contribution, methodological rigor, clarity of analysis, relevance to contemporary educational issues, and the significance of the study for the development of spirituality, pedagogy, Islamic education, and higher education studies.

The review process generally takes approximately 2–4 weeks, depending on reviewer availability and the complexity of the manuscript. During the review and pre-review stages, editors may provide comments and request revisions to ensure compliance with HESP publication standards and academic quality.

Authors are required to revise and resubmit their manuscripts based on reviewer and editor recommendations within the specified revision period. Failure to submit the revised manuscript within the allocated time may result in the withdrawal or rejection of the submission.

The final decision regarding manuscript acceptance, revision, or rejection is determined by the Editor-in-Chief based on reviewer recommendations and editorial evaluation. On average, accepted manuscripts require approximately 8–12 weeks from initial submission to publication.
