Abstract

The Battle of Normandy is one of the most influential historical events in the military world. The Allies represented by Britain, the United States and Canada succeeded in seizing the coast in the northern region of France because they implemented a good battle strategy. The Allied victory over Germany showed that the coast was the area that most influenced the outcome of a battle. The purpose of this paper is to find out how the war strategy launched by the Allies could be a lesson for the strength of the Indonesian military as an archipelagic country. This research is written qualitatively using content analysis method based on battle strategy theory. From various related articles, it can be illustrated that the large quantity of the Allied military force was the factor that most influenced the victory. Associated with the conditions of the regional strategic environment, the authors conclude that Indonesia still needs to strive to balance the military power of the great countries during the ongoing peacetime in the face of conventional battles.
