Abstract

This article aims to reveal information about the development of the Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin Jayo Wikramo Mosque in the era of the biggest renovation in 1999. The researcher uses a historical research method consisting of several stages (1) heuristics, namely collection consisting of oral information and sources of literature related to this research. (2) criticism, (3) interpretation. (4) historiography. The results of the research show that the history of the establishment of the Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin Jayo Wikramo Mosque where the founder of the Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin Jayo Wikramo Mosque is the leader of the Palembang Sultanate, namely Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin I, this mosque was built with the reason to provide for the people of Palembang to perform prayers. On Friday, September 10, 1999 at 10.00 WIB was the first step full of history, the beginning of the restoration and renovation of the Great Mosque of Palembang by the Rear Admiral H. Rosihan Arsyad, together with the general chairman Prof. Dr. Kiagus Haji Oejang Gajah Nata, DABK, and the secretary, Raden Haji Muhammad Saleh Djon. The mosque building of Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin Jayo Wikramo can already be said as a local cultural heritage and even as a cultural heritage of the archipelago. One of the local traditions or cultures that has been preserved at the Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin Jayo Wikramo Mosque since its establishment is the procession or order of events during Friday prayers, this tradition or culture is also a distinctive characteristic of the Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin Jayo Wikramo Mosque.
