Abstract

This study aims to improve the critical thinking ability of class XI IBB students of UM Laboratory High School through the use of Monogatari media on the material “Semi-Military Period of Japanese Occupation in Indonesia”. The research method used was Classroom Action Research (PTK) which was carried out in two cycles. Each cycle consists of the stages of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The results showed an increase in students’ critical thinking skills, which was shown through an increase in the average score from 73.96 in cycle I to 80.63 in cycle II, as well as an increase in learning completeness from 66.6% to 87.5%. These findings demonstrate Monogatari’s effectiveness in fostering students’ higherorder thinking skills, particularly in historical analysis and reflection. These results are supported by previous research which shows that narrative-based media can increase learners’ engagement and understanding in learning history. Thus, the use of Monogatari can be an innovative alternative in history learning to develop learners’ critical thinking skills.
