Pikukuh: Kajian historis kearifan lokal pitutur dalam literasi keagamaan masyarakat adat Baduy

Abstract

Individual and social behaviour driven by internal forces based on religious teaching values that internalize before. Therefore, a religion that is subjective, can be objectified in various kinds of expressions, and certain rules that can be understood by its adherents. Baduy’s indigenous tradition coloured by Sunda Wiwitan religion, that gave birth to its own teaching called pikukuh. Pikukuh conveyed over generations by word of mouth as an absolute tradition rule that must be obeyed. Violation of the absolute tradition rule raises consequences, which must be accepted by the Baduy indigenous people. Various philosophical meanings of life (peace, honesty, simplicity, compassion) used as the basis of Baduy life, where they will always maintain and practice pikukuh. By carrying out the pikukuh, Baduy people will be protected by Batara Tunggal as the highest authority in Baduy belief through the Guriang (Batara Tunggal messengers) which sent by Karuhun (ancestors). Likewise, an experienced life suffering is a punishment from karuhun and Batara Tunggal for not being obedient to pikukuh. People compliance in holding religious beliefs by obeying pikukuh embraced by the Baduy people has become a key to stick people integrity.
