The transformation of the Cikarang area, which was originally a rice barn, into an industrial area was marked by the establishment of factories that caused serious impacts on social and environmental life. This study aims to analyze the relationship between Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and the history of industrialization in Cikarang in 1974-1998, and the impact of environmental damage caused. This research uses historical research methods consisting of Heuristics, Source Criticism, Interpretation, and Historiography. The findings of this study are that during the period 1974-1998, Cikarang experienced significant development in its social and economic structure, especially under the New Order regime led by President Soeharto. Cikarang became an important industrial investment destination, especially after the development of the Jababeka area which began in 1989. Areas that were previously dominated by agriculture and rural areas began to transform into densely populated urban areas, especially around industrial areas. This led to changes in the settlement patterns, social structure, and lifestyle of the community, with the adoption of more modern and urban aspects. Despite significant economic growth, the social and economic structure in Cikarang also reflects significant disparities between social groups. Some people benefit from economic growth and employment opportunities in the industrial sector, while others are marginalized and remain living in poverty.
