Institusi ‘S Lands Plantentuin Buitenzorg menjadi Departement van Landbouw dalam visi Treub (1880–1905)

This article discusses the history of Bogor Botanical Garden during the Dutch East Indies colonial period known as ‘s Lands Plantentuin Buitenzorg under the leadership of Director Melchior Treub until it became Departement van Landbouw (Department of Agriculture). During Treub’s directorship, ‘s Lands Plantentuin Buitenzorg transformed into an important and reputable colonial scientific institution that contributed significantly to colonial agricultural and plantation knowledge, and later to the implementation of the Ethical Policy. This research focuses on the transformation history of ‘s Lands Plantentuin Buitenzorg from the beginning of Treub’s leadership in 1880 as a research institution until it became Departement van Landbouw in 1905 in relation to Ethical Policy. This research also analyzes the research activities carried out as historical activities in Buitenzorg as the location of ‘s Lands Plantentuin Buitenzorg. Using sources in the form of activity reports of ‘s Lands Plantentuin Buitenzorg and relevant published documents, this research uses historical science methods consisting of heuristics, verification, interpretation and historiography. This research explains how Treub led the development of ‘s Lands Plantentuin Buitenzorg with his vision of science to become the Departement van Landbouw in the context of the development of Dutch East Indies colonialism.
