Menggelitik dengan rubrik: Kritik sosial politik Mahbub Djunaidi dalam rubrik Asal Usul harian Kompas (1986—1994)

Abstract

This article discusses the criticism conveyed by Mahbub Djunaidi regarding the socio-political conditions of the New Order through rubric Asal Usul. This rubric was presented by Kompas as an alternative to conveying socio-political issues that are difficult to present in the news column. Because at that time criticism could not be displayed freely. This study uses the historical method which consists of five stages, topic selection, heuristic, verification, interpretation, and historiography.  Rubric Asal Usul is the main source alongside other sources such as newspapers, books, journals, and interviews. This study is different from previous studies which tend to discuss the role and thoughts of Mahbub in articles in various newspapers.  The focus of this study is to look at Mahbub’s way of criticizing socio-political issues during the New Order era specifically in Asal Usul. This study proves that Mahbub actively used rubric Asal Usul as a space to reflect and criticize socio-political issues at that time. This can be seen through Mahbub’s writings which tend to be critical of The House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia’s performance and the condition of the poor community. In his presentations, Mahbub often uses satire and humor to cover his criticisms.
