Abstract

After Indonesia’s independence, trained professional soldiers were needed to defend the country’s territory and sovereignty.  The soldiers who were PETA graduates formed to mobilize the Indonesian people and then gathered together. YAPETA, an organization formed by former PETA graduates, was initiated to establish PETA Monument and Museum in 1995. It shows that our predecessors through PETA wanted the people, especially the young generation of Indonesia, not to forget the history and identity of their nation. This research used a literature study method with data obtained through literary sources (books, journals, newspapers, or other sources) and seminars or discussions related to YAPETA or PETA Monument and Museum. This article shows that the PETA Museum helps to illustrate that PETA helped to realize past national security in the military security sector with a focus on both offensive and defensive PETA military capabilities until BKR was born. In the political security sector, the Indonesian people focus on organizing the state by mobilizing the community through the PETA army and establishing the NKRI government system. Directly, the PETA Museum is a historical record that strengthens solidarity to be free from colonialism and have the identity and nationalism of the Indonesian nation. The diorama of PETA
historical events recorded in this museum can be used as a medium of education for the youth generation.
