Abstract

The research aimed to conduct an in-depth study of Wangari Maathai and the Green Belt Movement in overcoming the environmental crisis and discrimination of women in Kenya. In general, the researcher wants to answer the question about “how did the ecofeminism of the Green Belt Movement solve environmental problems and women in Kenya?”. The examined study used historical methods includes four steps of research. Which are the collection of written sources through literature studies (heuristics), source criticism, interpretation or analysis of sources and historiography. The researcher also uses the concept to simplify the analysis, including the concepts of cology, ecofeminism, patriarchy, three-legged stool. A rationalization for this study of eco-feminism, because there are many perspectives on claims made by the government or the movement itself. The analysis of eco-feminism emerged in the form of accountability for the analysis of women and nature as the two objects of struggle carried out by Maathai, besides that ecofeminism emerged as a tool of struggle that did not focus on women’s struggle for nature, but also focused on the issue of oppression of women’s rights through women’s struggles and nature.
